Entertainment sits at the heart of the strategy

Egypt's largest real estate developers are joining forces to market the North Coast as a single global tourism destination through the newly launched Yalla Sahel initiative, spearheaded by Ora Developers Chairman Naguib Sawiris, M Squared Chairman Ayman Abbas, Mountain View Chairman Amr Soliman, and Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) Chairman Khaled Abbas. The initiative aims to establish Sahel as an internationally recognized tourism brand, moving beyond its image as a seasonal destination for Egyptians to attract visitors from Europe and the GCC. Organizers unveiled the initiative at a launch event earlier this week.

The initiative builds on an idea developers have been championing for more than a year: Market the destination before marketing individual projects. Last summer’s Destination Sahel series found broad consensus among developers that the North Coast needed a stronger identity to compete with Mediterranean hotspots, with executives arguing that visitors should be buying into the destination rather than individual compounds. Yalla Sahel takes that vision a step further by bringing competing developers together under a single platform to jointly promote the entire coastline.

That collaboration will extend beyond marketing campaigns. Developers plan to coordinate entertainment calendars, festivals and sporting events, while launching Tellr, a unified digital platform that will aggregate concerts, restaurants, beach clubs and experiences across the North Coast. The initiative also aims to capitalize on expanding connectivity through Alamein International Airport, Marsa Matrouh Airport and the planned Ras El Hekma airport, while encouraging visitors to move between destinations instead of remaining within a single resort.

Entertainment sits at the heart of the strategy. Last year, developers told EnterpriseAM that world-class entertainment would be essential if Sahel was to compete with destinations across the Mediterranean, arguing that beaches alone would not be enough. This year's initiative puts that thinking into action through a coordinated events strategy that organizers hope will gradually extend the tourism season from June through mid-October before eventually evolving into a year-round destination.

“We're not just competing anymore; we're collaborating to put Sahel on the global tourism map,” Ora Developers Chairman Naguib Sawiris said. Sawiris argued that destinations such as Ibiza built their global reputation as much on entertainment as on their beaches, saying Sahel has the ingredients to follow a similar path by leveraging Egypt's music, culture and entertainment industry alongside its coastline. He said the Tellr platform and closer coordination between developers are intended to create a seamless visitor experience while helping establish Sahel as a globally recognized tourism destination.
