City go seven for seven, PSG snag Le Classique, and Ramadan Sobhi’s doping ban is upheld

⚽ There’s no new footie to watch tonight, folks. We’re now in an international FIFA break through Tuesday, 6 October. The first international break since the 2026 World Cup, this one is noticeably longer at 16 days, combining the usual separate break windows in September and October into one prolonged recess.

With that now out of the way, here’s what you may have missed on the pitch last night: Did Manchester City just go seven for seven? They sure did. The Cityzens beat Sunderland — whose Brian Brobbey scored a hat-trick — 5-3 last night at the Etihad. Enzo Fernández, Rayan Cherki, Antoine Semenyo (twice), and Erling Haaland were the scorers for City, with Haaland having now scored against all 25 Premier League clubs he has faced. City now head into the international break on a seven-victory streak.

Also in the Premier League: Liverpool ground out the three points they needed, beating Bournemouth 1-0 with an Alexander Isak second-half strike. Continuing their less-than-ideal run, Manchester United ended their face-off against Fulham in a draw, with an unfortunate own goal by Lisandro Martínez costing Man United the victory.

Over in La Liga, Atlético Madrid edged 10-man Real Madrid 2-1 in a feisty Madrid derby — Dean Huijsen was sent off early in the second half for pulling down Giuliano Simeone in the box, which led to a penalty tucked away by Alejandro Grimaldo. Jonathan David netted the second moments later, before Antonio Rüdiger pulled one back late. Atlético move up to second, five points behind Barcelona and one ahead of Real Madrid.

AND- PSG claimed bragging rights in Le Classique, beating Marseille 2-1 in a match that only took off in the second half, with the first half ending goalless despite PSG dominating. All three goals and a red card arrived within 10 chaotic second-half minutes. Ferran Torres put PSG ahead, Angel Gomes equalized for the hosts, and then PSG captain Marquinhos headed in the decider. PSG climbed to sixth in Ligue 1, while Marseille, who have now lost four of their five league games this season, fell to second from bottom.

IN OTHER NEWS- The Swiss Federal Court has rejected Egyptian footballer Ramadan Sobhi’s appeal against a four-year suspension, leaving the ban — received in November 2025 for an anti-doping rule violation — in place until 2029.
