🥙 Some mornings and afternoons call for nothing more than the simple pleasures of Egyptian cuisine. Sabha is Cairo’s ode to the comfortably familiar and unfussy food tradition, serving up the fresh and the feel-good — from ful and taameya to feteer and sausage, and all your heart’s desires.
A menu that needs no introduction: Following the rhythm of a day’s meals, Sabha’s menu offers an “Estebaha” selection for every kind of craving. The morning classics include an extensive line-up of ful, omelets, taameya, ‘arayes, potatoes, eggplant, and cheese, all available as sandwiches or plates. For later meals, Sabha offers a selection of savory and sweet feteer, alongside Alexandrian liver, kofta, sausages, shish tawook, and hawashi, also available as sandwiches or plated options. “2tma” packages and group-friendly boxes also feature on the menu for easier, full-meal orders.
What we liked: We’ve previously tried our hand at Sabha’s breakfast staples — and we’re here to tell you to absolutely go for it; their ful, cheese, and taameya sandwiches hit all the right spots. This time around, however, we decided to put their afternoon “Estebaha” selections to the test. Feteer was first on our list, and we opted for the chicken BBQ and mixed cheese pans. The feteer was everything you’d expect — both strongly delivered, arriving hot with fresh dough and generous fillings.
We rounded out our meal with hawawshi and a kofta sandwich. The hawawshi was a perfect, warm, and filling bite with the right amount of spice. The kofta sandwich was an equally enjoyable mix of classic tahina and kofta, though we found the onion portion a little too much for the sandwich — and the kofta itself slightly dry from being overcooked. All in all, Sabha still delivered on all fronts.
Our verdict: Sabha proves itself to be the kind of restaurant you truly can’t go wrong with. True to its name, its fresh servings are perfect for a reliably filling breakfast, midday meal, or late-night craving. Only two visits in, the restaurant is already a staple for good feteer and breakfast baladi sammies in our books — and a go-to whenever we’re craving straightforward Egyptian comfort food.
WHERE TO FIND IT- You can find Sabha at New Cairo’s Dyar Mall, in Maadi, in Zamalek, at Sheikh Zayed’s Majarrah, and at Mountain View on the North Coast. You can also order through Talabat or Tappya.
