Your guide to navigating Egypt’s online government services

💻📄 Government infrastructure has steadily moved online over the past few years, making it easier to apply for many government services and obtain documents without spending hours hopping between offices. But “online” doesn’t always mean completely digital. While you can now request civil status documents, renew eligible driver’s licenses, pay traffic fines — and more — online, other services, such as first-time national IDs, passports, and first-time criminal record certificates, still require an in-person visit.

At the center of this digital shift is Digital Egypt (also accessible through misr.gov.eg), the government’s one-stop platform for hundreds of public services. Registering with your 14-digit national ID and the mobile number linked to it unlocks a single account that works across civil status, traffic, real estate, court, and commercial registry services, whether you’re using the website, the mobile app, or calling the 15999 hotline. For some services, you’ll also need the companion Digital Identity app to complete biometric verification.

Below, we break down which services can be completed online, which ones still require a trip to a government office, and a few practical tips that can save you an unnecessary visit, but first…

How to use Digital Egypt

Whether you’re requesting a birth certificate, renewing a driver’s licence, or applying for a Commercial Registry extract, most services on Digital Egypt follow the same basic process:

• Create an account on the Digital Egypt platform using your 14-digit National Number and the mobile number registered in your name;
• Prepare your documents by scanning or photographing the required paperwork before you begin your application;
• Select the service you need, then complete the online application with the required personal information;
• Upload any supporting documents, where required;
• Pay the applicable fees electronically using a bank card, Fawry, or other available payment methods;
• Save your application number or payment receipt so you can track the status of your request or reference it if you need customer support.

What you can do entirely online

These services can typically be requested, paid for, and either delivered to your door or made available for collection without needing to visit a government office — provided you meet the eligibility requirements.

#1- Civil status documents: If your records have already been computerized, you can request:

• Electronic or regular birth certificates;
• Previously registered marriage certificates;
• Previously registered divorce certificates;
• Previously registered death certificates;
• Family registration records;
• Request replacements for lost or damaged National IDs.

#2-Traffic fines and traffic services:

• Check outstanding traffic violations;
• Pay traffic fines;
• Request a traffic violations certificate;
• Request an appeal for traffic violations;
• Request a replacement for lost or damaged driver’s license or car registration.

Once submitted, payment can be completed electronically without visiting a traffic unit.

#3- Criminal record certificate: If your fingerprints are already registered with the Interior Ministry, you can request a computerized criminal record certificate (Fesh wa Tashbeeh). The certificate can be requested and paid for online and delivered through Egypt Post.

#4- Social ins. services:

• Inquire about your social ins. number;
• Find out the timing of your last ins. period;
• Check your social ins. subscription periods and fees;
• Inquire about the basic data of your pension file;
• Review your due pension payments;
• Inquire about your own car information and due payments.

#5- Ration card services. Through Digital Egypt, you can:

• Update personal information;
• Activate a ration card;
• Add eligible family members;
• Separate ration cards;
• Replace lost or damaged cards;
• Submit transfer requests.

#6- Labor registry certificate (Ka’b El ‘Amal): The latest addition to the platform, you can now register your labor information and issue your work slip through Digital Egypt. You can also get it replaced and change your profession through the platform.

#7- Credit inquiry service (iScore). You can now check your credit report through the portal and get a read on your iScore.

#8- Commercial registry certificates: Businesses can request or enquire about:

• Official commercial register extract;
• Negative certificates;
• Registry data certificates;
• Commercial register renewal;
• Updates to Commercial Registry information (where eligible);
• Commercial register extract for Foreign Ministry attestation;
• Security clearance approval;
• Transfer of Commercial Registry within the Governorate;

Requests are submitted and paid for online through Digital Egypt.

What you can start online (and then finish up in person)

#1- National ID renewals and replacements. Eligible applicants can begin:

• National ID renewals;
• National ID replacements;
• Selected personal data updates.

The requests can be submitted online, but some requests still require identity verification or biometric capture at a Civil Status Office.

#2- Driver’s license renewal. Eligible drivers can:

• Submit a renewal application;
• Upload supporting documents;
• Pay renewal fees.

💡 NOTE- The mandatory medical and vision examination must still be completed in person before the license is renewed.

#3- Vehicle license renewal. Vehicle owners can:

• Submit a renewal request;
• Upload insurance information;
• Pay renewal fees;
• Track the application.

💡 NOTE- The vehicle must first pass its mandatory technical inspection before the renewed license is issued.

#4-Real Estate registry (El Shahr El Aqary). You can:

• Book appointments;
• Start power of attorney (Tawkeel) requests;
• Begin property registration requests;
• Request certified copies;

#5- Passports. You can:
