WHAT WE’RE TRACKING TONIGHT

Ukraine strikes Iran in the Caspian Sea as the US pauses airstrikes

Good afternoon, friends, and welcome back — we’ve got a full week ahead. In today’s issue, we’re taking a look at the AI tools that actually work, where they make a measurable difference, and how to avoid the budget traps. We also have a podcast recommendation for anyone at any stage of building something. That and the latest news.

Up first, the news…

THE BIG STORY ABROAD-

🌐 It’s another afternoon of the US-Iran war leading the headlines. After Washington halted airstrikes on Iran, Iran accused Ukraine of striking one of its vessels in the Caspian Sea — later confirmed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The attack left one sailor dead and another injured. Iran’s foreign ministry summoned a Ukrainian diplomat in Tehran earlier today to protest the “hostile and criminal attack.” Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump maintains that its naval blockade “remains in full effect” despite the halt in strikes.

MEANWHILE- As the conflict in Iran continues to strain the global oil supply and increase demand for cheaper renewable power, China’s overseas infrastructure program, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), has ramped up its green energy financing to USD 20.1 bn in 1Q 2026. BRI investment has gained momentum as US and Israeli attacks on Iran pushed oil and gas prices higher.

The EnterpriseAM Egypt Forum is back — and this year, we’re giving the full day to the one question on every business leader’s mind: What does AI actually mean for your company, your people, and your own job?

Leaders in New York, London, Abu Dhabi, and Singapore are asking the same things, and nobody has built a playbook that works yet. We’re all figuring it out in real time — and for Egypt, the stakes are unusually high.

Egypt could leapfrog a generation on the back of this technology — or watch AI hollow out the industries and jobs we can’t afford to lose. The leaders who get literate early will be the ones who get to decide which road we take.

Every session on stage answers one question: “So, what do I actually do about it?”

Join us on 5 October in Cairo. Seats are limited and attendance is by invitation only.

Request your invitation here.

** CATCH UP QUICK on the top stories from today’s EnterpriseAM:

  • Egyptian goods covered by the Section 301 investigation entering the US now face a 12.5% tariff — the higher of two rates under a new US forced-labor regime covering 60 trading partners — after President Donald Trump’s temporary 10% global import surcharge expired Friday;
  • Egypt’s petroleum product exports surpassed 2.3 mn tons in 1H 2026, matching 2025’s full-year figure, as crude production hit a two-year peak. Backed by an 80% refinery utilization rate that has strengthened domestic supply and cut imports, export volumes are projected to reach 2.5 mn in 2H. Petroleum product exports between January and June 2026 generated some USD 2.3 bn in revenue;
  • Aramco is turning to Egypt as traditional Red Sea routes face renewed risk. The Saudi oil giant is offering additional crude cargoes from the Sidi Kerir terminal on a spot basis, as Houthi threats put the Kingdom’s exports through Bab Al Mandab at risk;
  • The European Commission disbursed EUR 1.5 bn to Egypt on Thursday, the second of three installments under its ongoing EUR 4 bn Macro-Financial Assistance program. The concessional loan is meant to help Egypt cover part of its financing needs, preserve macroeconomic stability, and keep its economic reform program moving in step with the IMF.

Destination Sahel is back for a second edition — and this year, it’s not just about the beach.

Gulf sovereign wealth funds are pouring bns into the North Coast, Gulf buyers keep showing up despite regional headwinds, and a new 400km master plan could reshape the whole coastline before summer’s out.

Over this season’s series, stay tuned to see who’s really buying Sahel, where the money’s coming from, and what could still go wrong.

Plus, the hotels, restaurants, and openings worth checking out this summer.

THE ENTERPRISE GUIDE

The AI tools worth deploying across your business right now — a department-by-department guide

🤖 Need an AI assistant? Employee access to approved AI tools rose 50% in a single year, jumping from under 40% to nearly 60% of the workforce — with 11% of leading companies now giving employees near-universal access above 80%, according to a Deloitte report (pdf). The catch: fewer than 60% of those with access actually use the tools in their day-to-day work, a figure that has barely moved from last year.

That’s the practical challenge for business owners: Ensuring the tools are actually used, and used for the right tasks. This week’s edition of The Enterprise Guide covers the most reliable, field-tested AI tools that can be deployed immediately across operational departments, and where each one makes a measurable difference.

💡 NOTE- One caveat before diving in and paying big bucks: access and adoption are only part of the equation. As we reported recently, poorly scoped AI mandates have burned through significant budgets without delivering measurable returns — a pattern that tends to emerge when tools are deployed company-wide before use cases are clearly defined.

Where to start

Too many options — how do you choose? Start gradually: identify the operational gaps that are draining time and money, pick one or two tools to test, and invest in parallel in training employees on how to prompt them effectively. Before allowing any company or client data into an AI system, put firm data governance policies in place.

The regional context matters. For banks and regulated institutions, data sovereignty is non-negotiable. The UAE Central Bank launched the financial sector’s first sovereign cloud infrastructure in early 2026, ensuring data stays within the country's borders. Digital residency of data, auditability, and jurisdictional control have become baseline requirements — a condition that rules out any tool unable to keep data within the region.

Productivity and workspace management

#1- Microsoft Copilot. The most integrated option for companies already running on Microsoft — it works inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams, automating routine tasks with minimal friction. It can summarize long Teams meetings and pull out action items, analyze large datasets in Excel and generate charts and instant recommendations, and draft professional emails.

Pricing: USD 30 per user per month, billed annually.

#2- Gemini: Google’s equivalent to Copilot, embedded across Docs, Sheets, Meet, and Gmail, with similar capabilities around document drafting, spreadsheet organization, and image generation for presentations. The natural fit for startups and organizations already running on Google’s cloud infrastructure.

Fully customizable: Specific chat projects within the tool can be configured with a defined sequence of thinking and processing steps — useful for recurring workflows like transcribing press interviews or editing and refining copy.

Pricing: From USD 21 per user per month for smaller companies, or USD 30 for larger organizations.

Content production and digital marketing

#1- ChatGPT Enterprise: OpenAI’s business tier remains the gold standard for text generation. What distinguishes it from the gratis version is the security layer: the company ensures that client data and inputs are not used to train future models. Marketing and sales teams can use it to draft marketing plans, write periodic reports, and generate campaign ideas.

Pricing: Available on request, but reported to range between USD 45-75, with an average of around USD 60 per user per month.

#2- Jasper and Copy.ai. If direct marketing output is the goal, both tools specialize in advertising copy. They use advanced language models built specifically for SEO-compliant content, social media posts, and e-commerce product descriptions — cutting the cost of outsourcing routine content production to external agencies.

Pricing: Available on request for both through their websites (Jasper | Copy).

#3- Canva: The platform’s newly integrated AI tools allow non-designer marketing teams to generate professional images, automatically resize assets for different platforms, and produce short video clips and visual campaign materials from simple text prompts.

Pricing: Around USD 67 per user per year on the Business plan; enterprise pricing available on request.

In-depth analysis

#1- Claude: Developed by Anthropic, Claude’s competitive advantage is its ability to process large volumes of documents and data within a single context window. Employees can upload reports, contracts, or market studies for immediate analysis, strategic insight extraction, and precise executive summaries. The model operates under strict enterprise security standards, ensuring sensitive data is protected and not used in public model training.

Pricing: The enterprise version starts at USD 20 per seat per month, with usage fees calculated on processing volume — bringing the effective cost to between USD 100-250 per user, according to the company’s website.

#2- Notion: The platform is no longer a standard project management and note-taking tool — generative AI is now built into its core. Teams can use Notion AI to turn unstructured notes into structured action plans, automatically summarize meeting minutes and extract tasks for distribution across team members, and integrate Notion features into internal communication tools like Teams and Slack.

Pricing: AI features are now included in the Business plan at around USD 20 per user per month on annual billing, having previously been a separate add-on. Enterprise pricing available on request.

CRM and sales

#1- Salesforce Einstein: The CRM giant embeds AI to deliver highly precise predictive analytics — analyzing historical customer data to anticipate future behavior, assessing the likelihood of agreements closing, and recommending to sales teams the optimal time to reach out to prospects and which products to lead with. This reduces the burden of routine tasks on teams while improving conversion rates.

Pricing: Einstein capabilities are added on top of base Salesforce plans, starting at around USD 175 per user per month for enterprise.

#2- HubSpot: HubSpot offers comparable tools focused on automating marketing and sales workflows — writing personalized emails for each customer based on their interaction history with the company, summarizing sales calls, and automatically logging data into client records without human input, eliminating hours of manual data entry.

Pricing: Professional plans start at USD 800 per month for three users, with additional users at USD 45 per person per month.

Customer service and technical support

#1- Zendesk and Intercom: Both platforms offer sophisticated chatbots capable of understanding natural human language and providing instant resolution for first-level support requests. These tools go beyond pre-programmed responses — they can read a company’s return policies or user manuals and extract answers for customers around the clock, reducing pressure on staff by up to 50%.

Pricing: Zendesk starts at USD 115 per user per month; Intercom enterprise pricing available on request.

Decision-making

#1- Tableau: Since the Salesforce acquisition, the platform has integrated generative AI features that allow financial and executive managers to ask natural-language questions about company performance — “which products sold most in 3Q compared to last year?” — with the system analyzing raw data and returning answers supported by clear charts, bypassing the need for large data analyst teams to build complex dashboards.

Pricing: From USD 35 per user per month.

#2- Polymer: A business intelligence platform built specifically for companies without deep technical expertise. It converts traditional spreadsheets into interactive, AI-searchable databases, making it easier for decision-makers to surface hidden patterns in sales or operational data.

Pricing: From USD 125 per month for a plan covering three users.

Ears to the Ground

Yap with Hala Taha dissects all things entrepreneurship

🎧 Aspiring entrepreneur? Running a decade-old business that’s hit a plateau? Struggling to scale your startup? Whatever stage you’re at, the questions on your mind are likely to have answers on Young and Profiting (Yap) with Hala Taha. Now in its eighth year, the long-running podcast offers a deep well of practical insight and motivation for both early-career and long-serving entrepreneurs.

What to expect: Yap’s episodes center on gains and how to always work towards growing yours. In one- to two-hour interviews, Palestinian-American entrepreneur Hala Taha sits down with founders, executives, influencers, and industry leaders who have been in the game long enough to give grounded career advice, wellness and mindset guidance, and the most significant lessons they’ve learned along the way. CEOs and celebrities like Mel Robbins, Matthew McConaughey, Alex and Leila Hormozi — alongside many more — are among the roster of successful entrepreneurs that Yap features.

The lucrative business of books: In one recent episode, Taha speaks to SelfPublishing.com founder Chandler Bolt about his decade-long bootstrapped business that demystifies the idea that book royalties are the only way authors can make money. Bolt explains the services that his business offers — ranging from branding, marketing, writing coaching sessions, all the way to ghostwriting services — and how his USD 10 mn company has helped many authors increase revenue through branding, capture new clients and leads from publishing, and reframe their ideas around best-selling books.

What we liked: Taha is a lively host, chiming in with her own experience and insight during interviews. The episodes are packed, allowing for deep dives into how a guest’s business operates, personal career insights, breakdowns of the most real-life advice listeners can apply themselves, and enough time for some fun banter to keep things engaging. Our one drawback, however, was the constant five-minute ad breaks throughout that made for a somewhat restless listening experience for us.

Our verdict: While some guests and companies spotlighted on the show can feel generic, and conversations sometimes leaned heavily toward ROI-focused advice, other episodes proved more eye-opening and genuine. Regardless of the occasional hit-or-miss guests, Yap with Hala Taha remains a not-to-miss, valuable listen for anyone with entrepreneurial aspirations. If you can spare an hour, tune into an episode and you’ll find plenty of advice worth applying to your own journey.
