Community Shield, Trophée des Champions, La Liga, and Salah’s first competitive outing

⚽ It’s a busy day on the pitch, kicking off earlier than usual. Here’s the rundown:

Premier League vs. FA Cup: Arsenal face Manchester City in the FA Community Shield at 5pm at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. Arsenal take the field as Premier League champions, Manchester City as FA Cup victors. The FA Community Shield is essentially a glorified pre-season friendly, with no real stakes on the line — though we’ll still be tuning in.

Later tonight, France’s equivalent fixture follows suit. Ligue 1 champions PSG — who have just snagged the Super Cup — face Coupe de France victors Lens in the Trophée des Champions at 9:45pm.

💡 WHERE TO WATCH- Both fixtures will be broadcast live on beIN Sports 1.

La Liga is also going strong, with two fixtures on the roster for this evening:

  • Racing Santander vs. Villarreal — 6pm, beIN Sports 3;
  • Espanyol vs. Levante — 8pm, beIN Sports 2.

ICYMI-

Mo Salah’s competitive debut for Trabzonspor didn’t go to plan — but it wasn’t without promise. Salah came off the bench in the 58th minute of Trabzonspor’s Turkish Super Lig opener, with the scores already level. The 34-year-old Egyptian star was deployed on the right wing, where he had a couple of close calls. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with the club’s coach, Fatih Tekke, describing it as a “sad start” ahead of a Europa League qualifier on Thursday.

AND- Another Egyptian from the World Cup squad has found a new club. Celtic confirmed the signing of Haissem Hassan from Real Oviedo on an initial four-year contract, with a fee of GBP 6 mn rising to GBP 9 mn with add-ons. The 24-year-old — born in Paris and raised in the French football system before switching international allegiance to Egypt — caught the club’s eye at the World Cup against Argentina in the round of 16, setting up a goal (disallowed in controversial circumstances) and tormenting Argentina’s defense.
