The Terrace Bakery serves up an experience rooted in Lebanese tradition in New Cairo

Between the freshly baked bread, standout hummus, and curated menu, The Terrace Bakery is an easy recommendation for anyone looking to elevate their next brunch outing

🍽️ There’s something undeniably comforting about a Lebanese breakfast. Freshly baked bread, creamy hummus, sizzling mezze, and the sound of Fairuz playing in the background, it all feels like an invitation to slow down. That’s exactly the atmosphere The Terrace Bakery has created at Eastlane in New Cairo, after serving up Lebanese classics in a bright, welcoming space that feels equally suited to a leisurely breakfast, a long brunch, or a cozy dinner all the way in London.

First impressions: The Terrace Bakery felt warm and inviting. The colorful decor pays homage to Lebanese heritage without feeling overdone, while both the indoor dining room and outdoor terraces offer plenty of comfortable seating. Tables are spaced generously apart, making the restaurant feel airy. If you happen to be seated near the bakery, you’ll catch glimpses of fresh bread emerging from the oven. The service was equally impressive. Staff were attentive without hovering, dishes arrived remarkably quickly, and — perhaps most importantly — everything hit the table piping hot.

What we liked: We opted for the Hot Mezze Breakfast, a generous spread featuring kibbeh, batata harra, grilled halloumi, sausages in tomato sauce, cheese rolls, and freshly baked Lebanese bread, alongside an order of the Classic Hummus and a refreshing mango smoothie. As good as everything else was, the bread stole the show. Fresh from the oven, impossibly soft, and still steaming, it became the perfect companion to every plate on the table. The hummus followed closely behind, silky smooth with excellent olive oil that elevated an already beautifully balanced dish.

The sausages were an unexpected favorite, with an aromatic tomato sauce that packed plenty of flavor without overwhelming the meat. The batata harra delivered plenty of spice and character, while the grilled halloumi offered a satisfyingly golden crust — though both leaned a touch on the salty side. The kibbeh was generously filled and deeply flavorful, if just slightly dry — it would’ve been even better with a drizzle of pomegranate molasses.

The downside: There wasn’t much to fault during our visit, though a couple of small things stood out. Some elements of the mezze — particularly the kibbeh and cheese rolls— felt a little modest in size compared to the rest of the spread, and the restaurant’s air conditioning was working overtime, making the dining room noticeably chilly. We’d also had our sights set on the Clotted Cream & Cotton Candy Ice Cream, only to learn it was unavailable that day, a disappointing end to an otherwise excellent meal.

The verdict: The Terrace Bakery made an impression because it focused on the fundamentals and an atmosphere that makes you want to linger over one drink. Between the freshly baked bread, standout hummus, and curated menu, it’s an easy recommendation for anyone looking to elevate their next brunch outing in New Cairo.
