Canada edge South Africa + Brazil, Germany, and the Netherlands up tonight

⚽ It was a relatively quieter day on the pitch yesterday — just Canada vs. South Africa, but the match delivered. Stephen Eustáquio scored deep into stoppage time to lift Canada to a 1-0 victory over South Africa in Los Angeles, sending the co-hosts through to the Round of 16 in their first-ever World Cup knockout game.

Alphonso Davies, who had missed the entire group stage with a hamstring injury, came on as a substitute in the 75th minute and set up a spurned chance before Eustáquio settled it late, cleanly striking a clearance from the edge of the box. Canada will next face either Morocco or the Netherlands in Houston on 4 July.

On our radar tonight

Three matches on the pitch tonight: Brazil face Japan at 8pm at the Houston Stadium, with Germany taking on Paraguay at 11:30pm at the Boston Stadium. Into the early hours, the Netherlands meet Morocco at 4am at the Estadio Monterrey.
