Netflix’s I Will Find You is implausible, repetitive, and almost impossible to turn off

While I Will Find You might seem unrealistic at times, it’s still a worthy binge-watch

📺 What would you do if you were wrongly convicted of murdering your own son, spent years in prison, only to find out he might still be alive? That’s exactly the premise of Netflix’s latest mini-series, I Will Find You, adapted from Harlan Coben’s 2023 thriller novel of the same name.

The plot: David Burroughs (Sam Worthington) is a law professor serving a life sentence after damning evidence convicted him of murdering his son on account of his history of sleep terrors. The forensic evidence is tight, and not even his own family gives him the benefit of the doubt. Five years later, when David’s sister-in-law Rachel (Britt Lower) tells David his son might be alive, David quickly (and oddly) becomes a target in prison before breaking out to find his son. The series also stars Milo Ventimiglia, Logan Browning, and Madeleine Stowe, among other veteran actors.

What we liked: Action-packed with little time to catch a breather, the show is un-pausable, and we found it difficult to turn away at times. The entire cast, especially Worthington and Lower, delivers admirable performances. The cinematography is on point, supporting the dark, eerie premise of the show, and the soundtrack and score do some heavy lifting, too. The show does a commendable job of portraying love, grief, and vengeance.

What we didn’t like: The premise itself isn’t original and follows the stereotypical formula that has come to be synonymous with Netflix thrillers: a crime is committed, someone is wrongly accused, and justice is due. The series also falls victim to repetition and more than its fair share of red herrings, which can be frustrating at times.

The verdict: While I Will Find You might seem unrealistic at times, it’s still a worthy binge-watch (and if you’re not that enticed, it still functions as wonderful background entertainment as you go about your day at home). If you’re looking for a fast-paced, high-stakes, action-heavy watch — and don’t mind the logical hiccups — we’d say Netflix’s latest mini-series is worth giving a go.
