Egypt is planning to import between 600k and 700k tonnes of sugar this fiscal year, Reutersreports, quoting an Agriculture Ministry official. The country produced a record 2.48 mn tonnes of sugar last harvest season, but reports suggested last year that the cultivated area of sugar beet could fall between 33-50% in 2020 as a result of fuel price hikes and challenging market conditions.
