Govt’ finds new uses for rice straw to reduce air pollution: The Environment Ministry has collected 1.9k tonnes of rice straw this year in a bid to prevent farmers from burning the crop and causing pollution, Egypt Today reports. The straw will be used as fertilizer and animal fodder, as well as in manufacturing and the production of biogas. Personnel from the environment, agriculture and local development ministries have inspected 60 rice straw collection sites across the delta to check that farmers were not burning the crop.
