There is a “void” inside the Great Pyramid: Scientists announced that an imaging method using cosmic rays has detected a “large and enigmatic internal structure” inside the Great Pyramid of Giza, Reuters reports. “Researchers announced the discovery on Thursday but said they did not know the purpose, contents or precise dimensions of what they are calling a ‘void’ or ‘cavity’ inside the pyramid.” Mehdi Tayoubi, one of the leaders of the study published in the journal Nature, says: “What we are sure about is that this big void is there, that it is impressive, that it was not expected by, as far as I know, any kind of theory.” National Geographic and the Associated Press also covered the story. The suggestion now floating is that the chamber is unlikely to hold treasure, but may be a feature to lessen the weight of the massive structure.
