Saudi Arabia says its ban is for fears of the tilapia lake virus, following a warning from the UN FAO. Industry professionals say the virus is only harmful to other fish species and that Saudi Arabia is protecting maritime life there, but is not harmful to humans. These statements were echoed by the Agriculture Ministry on Saturday, which also urged UN FAO to conduct further tests to verify their results, according to Al Mal.
