Safeen Drydocks has landed two vessel-construction contracts worth a combined AED 1.3 bn to build ships for AD Ports and Nigerian marine-services firm Oilbank Logistics Services, according to a press release. No delivery dates were disclosed.
The buildout: Safeen will design and fabricate four 140-meter multipurpose vessels, each able to carry up to 300 TEUs — including more than 100 reefer plugs — alongside high-and-heavy cargo, up to 1k vehicles, and 100 trailers. The second contract covers 18 specialized support units, including tugboats and pilot boats, for Oilbank Logistics Services to use in Nigerian port and offshore-logistics operations.
BACKGROUND- AD Ports and Premier Marine established Safeen Drydocks in June 2023, with AD Ports holding 51% and Premier Marine 49%. Its Khalifa Port base was designed around a 45k sqm shipyard and repair facility, a 350-meter quay wall for afloat repairs, and a floating dry dock, with capacity to serve tankers, bulkers, containerships, offshore vessels, and jack-ups.
Safeen’s been building out fast on two fronts: In January, AD Ports’ Safeen Drydocks acquired Spain’s Balenciaga Astilleros for EUR 11.2 mn, adding a specialist yard focused on offshore-logistics vessels. The company then joined the Consortium of UAE Shipbuilders in May, a platform designed to connect local shipbuilding, repair, fabrication, and marine-engineering players under Noatum Maritime’s coordination.
