Damac + Vodafone partner up to establish data center: UAE-based Damac’s digital arm Edgnex and Vodafone Turkey are investing USD 100 mn to set up a 6 MW data center in Izmir, Turkey, according to a statement. The data center is set to launch in 2025.
What we know: The data center will provide Tier 3 end-to-end services and serve as a “one-stop-shop” connecting to Europe via terrestrial and submarine cables, the National reported on Tuesday. The facility will also cater to surging demand for data infrastructure on Turkey’s western coast driven by an overall uptick in demand on the Eastern Mediterranean, the news outlet cites Edgnex vice chairman Aqil Ali as saying.
What are Tier 3 standards? Tier 3 data centers guarantee 99.982% uptime, full redundancy, and are fault tolerant, the statement notes.
Edgnex is active in the region: The data center firm is investing USD 600 mn to build data centers in Riyadh and Dammam, with a combined 55 MW capacity, as part of a USD 1 bn data center development strategy. The company also inked an MoU in March 2023 to build a data center in Jordan.
