ECS Group expands into Morocco with the acquisition of EFIS Maroc

ECS acquires EFIS Maroc: Multinational air cargo solutions provider ECS Group acquired long-term Moroccan partner and cargo service company EFIS Maroc in a bid to expand its presence within Morocco and access African markets, AirCargo News reports. No details regarding the financial value of the transaction have been disclosed.

A boost in cargo connectivity between Africa and Europe: ECS Group sees the acquisition as a step towards making Morocco a key Africa Hub, ECS executive chairman Adrien Thominet said. EFIS has appointed Bouazza El Hantiti as managing director, tasked with boosting synergies between Morocco and ECS hubs in Europe. The acquisition will also grant EFIS clients access to the CargoAi platform for booking, Stat Times reports, citing a press statement.

About EFIS Maroc: Established in 2001 by Pierre Fougerouse (LinkedIn), the air cargo company is strategically based at Casablanca Mohammed V Airport, according to ECS’s website. EFIS network covers major cargo gateways in Morocco, linking Marrakech Menara Airport, Agadir Al Massira Airport, and Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport. The company offers a wide variety of air cargo services including the handling of outsized cargo, dangerous goods, perishables, and live animals. The unit is a market leader in Morocco, with considerable experience in air freight and loyal customers, executive chairman of ECS Group Adrien Thominet said.

ECS has been going on an acquisition spree: The latest move comes on the back of ECS’s October 2023 acquisition of Latin American air cargo company Americas GSA in a bid to establish a foothold in Central America. The group also acquired Ireland’s largest general sales and service agent International Airline Marketing earlier that same month.
