WHAT WE’RE TRACKING TONIGHT

Egypt unveils USD multi-mn in automotive and textile projects

Good afternoon, folks, and congratulations on making it through another successful workweek. We’re winding down for the weekend, and it seems the news cycle is following suit, with a few investment stories to end the week on a positive note.

THE BIG STORY TODAY-

The new projects include Samil Solution’s ready-made garments factory in Qantara West, Al Mansour’s vehicle and industrial filters factory in the 10th of Ramadan City, and Leoni’s electrical wiring complex in Roubiki City.

THE BIG STORY ABROAD-

? It’s an oddly calm afternoon in the global press, but headlines continue to follow European markets as they continue to slip further following investor reactions to a slew of corporate earnings releases, many of which, including Germany’s top arms manufacturer Rheinmetall, reported below-estimate earnings. The pan-European Stoxx 600 was down 0.2% at the time of publication.

Earlier this week, the stock index hit a two-week low in what has been a tumultuous week for global markets, with European indices in particular bearing the brunt. At the time of publication, the French CAC 40 was down 0.7%, Italy’s FTSE MIB was 0.2% in the red, the UK’s FTSE 100 slipped 0.2%, and the German DAX was down 0.3%. Going against the grain, Spain’s IBEX 35 was up 0.1%. (CNBC | Reuters)

The sharp slip can also be attributed to loss of investor confidence in AI, as concerns continue to rise over the inflated valuations of AI companies, The Guardian reports.

☀️ TOMORROW’S WEATHER- Cairo is in for a moderately warm day tomorrow, with temperatures set to peak at 29°C before cooling down to 20°C, according to our favorite weather app.

FOR YOUR COMMUTE

The promise and perils of new web browsers

?️ The browser wars are experiencing a ren(ai)ssance. Following more than 10 years of Google Chrome’s market supremacy, AI-powered browsers from OpenAI, Perplexity, Microsoft, and emerging companies like The Browser Company are entering the market with a transformative vision: browsers that don’t merely render web pages, but actively execute tasks including travel bookings, spreadsheet management, cross-tab data analysis, and workflow automation. Despite yet another proposition of AI-enhanced productivity, there is the accompanying danger of severe security weaknesses.

As companies transition their enterprise environments to the cloud, browsers have become a primary access point for corporate email systems, financial platforms, and customer databases. When enhanced with AI capabilities that can access user accounts and credentials, these browser agents become susceptible to prompt injection exploits — attacks where concealed malicious commands embedded in web content can manipulate the AI into performing unauthorized actions, potentially compromising user information or initiating unwanted transactions.

Current adoption metrics illustrate AI’s rapid integration into corporate workflows nearly half of all corporate employees are actively utilizing AI tools, with AI-related activities representing 11% of total application usage in the workplace. Concerningly, around 67% of this AI engagement happens through unmonitored personal accounts, and approximately 40% of documents uploaded to AI platforms contain sensitive information whether on a personal or corporate level.

Cybersecurity analysts warn that AI browsers present an unprecedented vulnerability, creating a new attack surface for hacking and doxxing. What makes them more vulnerable than traditional browsers is that the mechanism is both straightforward and catastrophic, manipulating AI’s decision-making processes through prompt injection embedded in website code, bypassing traditional security methods by operating within the user's authenticated permissions.

Due to cross-tab data collection and memory, these security vulnerabilities persist beyond single browsing sessions. Malicious actors can leverage the AI browser’s memory capabilities and initiate cross-domain operations that can activate across multiple devices, sessions, and browser platforms, with the ability to even access OTPs… just by loading a webpage.

EAT THIS TOMORROW

A Buffalo Burger… breakfast?

? When it comes to breakfast in Egypt, there is never a shortage of options. One can go the traditional route with a hearty ful sandwich, whip up a muesli bowl, or enjoy a flaky croissant. Yet sometimes, a break from routine might prove necessary, and when that’s the case, we would recommend not looking any further than Buffalo Burger.

First things first, what’s on the menu? Buffalo’s breakfast is reminiscent of one offered by a certain couple of golden arches, and we would argue that it surpasses it. It’s a simple, limited menu, featuring scrambled egg English muffin sandwiches with options of burger, chicken, and mushroom fillings, a turkey egg tortilla, and golden-friend hashbrowns. You can also pair your breakfast with Buffalo’s signature sauces.

We didn’t have to make a choice — we simply ordered everything. Like any seasoned breakfaster, we started off with the hashbrowns. Crispy on the outside and incredibly tender on the inside, the hashbrowns earned a perfect score. The best part? The generous portions. The turkey egg tortilla was the weakest link. It wasn’t subpar by any means, but it pales in comparison to the English muffin sandwiches.

The muffins reign supreme. Filling, flavorful, and just the right size, all the English muffin sammies on the menu are worth your time. The scrambled eggs and burger muffin, along with the plain scrambled eggs English muffin sandwiches, are top contenders, both covered in melted Parmesan cheese. But the mushroom and chicken English muffin sandwich takes the cake. The fresh mushrooms, combined with the Parmesan and scrambled eggs, made for a well-rounded breakfast packed between two buns. The chicken offered a welcomed crunch and was less oily than you would expect.

Our verdict? Buffalo Burger’s breakfast menu checks all the boxes, and while it set a lovely tone for our morning, we wouldn’t recommend indulging in it every day, as it’s anything but light.

WHERE TO GET IT- Buffalo Burger’s breakfast menu is available until noon in select branches. Call 19914 or visit the website to check availability and place your order.

A victory would send the Young Pharaohs directly to the knockout stages regardless of the final group game result. The tournament format sees the top two from all 12 groups advance, as well as the eight best third-place teams.

Another Super Saturday awaits: Matchday 11 of the English Premier League is set to kick off with five matches on Saturday, and five more on Sunday.

Arsenal will be paying Sunderland a visit at 7:30pm. The Gunners lead the table with 25 points, while the Black Cats sit in fourth, seven points adrift.

Chelsea will welcome the Wolves to Stamford Bridge at 10pm. The Blues desperately need all three points, sitting seventh with 17 points, while the Wolves are perched squarely at the bottom of the leaderboard with just two points to their name.
