Easier food tracking with New Cairo’s Macros

Macros makes sticking to your diet easier — without making you feel like you’re compromising on taste

🥗 Are you a calorie-counting, macro-conscious eater? Whether you’re struggling through a diet, following a strict gym-and-meal plan, or simply trying to eat healthier, knowing the exact macronutrient breakdown of your meal isn’t always easy — or even available. Macros is here to change that. The newly minted restaurant is setting out to be Egypt’s first performance-driven restaurant, making sure customers can eat well, feel full, and know exactly what’s going into their meals with a fully transparent macros menu.

The Macros menu: Eating healthy doesn’t mean eating with restrictions — and Macros keeps that in mind. Its menu caters to cravings just as it caters to nutrition, with power salads and protein-heavy rice bowls alongside burgers, fried sides, and a selection of “no guilty pleasure” desserts. For drinks, Macros offers the usual caffeinated lineup, on top of ingredient-varying healthy smoothies and energy shots. As for the most important meal of the day, Macros has plenty to choose from, including Benedict and scrambled egg dishes, focaccia sandwiches, Greek yogurt bowls, overnight oats, French toast, and cream of rice.

First impressions: We opted for a late lunch at the healthy spot but ended up having a slightly different-than-intended experience. We were expecting to use Macros’ self-ordering screen, which is advertised as providing the full macronutrient breakdown of every meal on the menu during the ordering process, but unfortunately happened to visit while the system was down. While that slightly took away from the experience, the manual ordering process with the staff went smoothly — we ordered the truffle beef main, Marry Me Chicken main, crispy wedges, and the banana bulk smoothie, before wrapping things up sweetly with their tiramisu.

What we liked: While we can’t say much about the macro-tracking side of the experience, we can certainly attest to the food from a purely flavor-based experience. Macros follows the same efficient approach with its in-house orders, serving meals in paper bowls on trays with plastic cutlery. The truffle beef bowl with jasmine rice was satisfyingly tasty, with a creamy truffle sauce coating the tender beef bites and rice. The Marry Me Chicken was the standout, with its strong herby seasoning hitting all the right notes. The crispy wedges arrived hot and tasted pretty much as promised: light, not oil-drenched, yet still flavorful and fresh. Given that Macros doesn’t microwave or air-fry its food, we’re assuming they came straight from the oven.

The banana bulk smoothie was another delicious and filling affair, combining sweet peanut butter and medjool dates with fresh banana and yogurt. As for the tiramisu, Macros offers a solid, healthier take on the Italian classic, keeping plenty of its sweetness and coffee flavor intact — although the ladyfingers were unusually crunchy.

The verdict: Macros skillfully sidesteps the healthy-equals-mediocre-food trope. The dishes were genuinely flavorful while still maintaining their healthier, calorie-efficient character. If you’re looking for a spot that makes sticking to your diet easier — without making you feel like you’re compromising on taste — Macros earns a strong recommendation from us. Its neon-green, playful design makes for a quick-lunch spot or, if you’re in a rush, an easy takeaway option.
