🍪 Some of the best food discoveries happen during a late-night scroll through your delivery apps, when you’re hunting for a sweet treat and stumble upon a place you’ve never heard of. That’s exactly how we found Monmon Goodies, a small family-run dessert shop tucked away in Nasr City, run by the much-loved tante Amany — or Monmon, as her customers affectionately know her. Safe to say, we’re glad we clicked “Order.”
First impressions: While they do have a small seating area, Monmon Goodies is primarily a takeaway business, so the experience begins long before the first bite. Ours arrived in just 10 minutes, still warm from the oven and impressively fresh. The packaging stood out; everything arrived neatly packed in pink boxes, sealed and branded with the shop’s logo featuring tante Amany herself, giving the order a personal touch. The presentation felt thoughtful from start to finish and ensured every dessert arrived exactly as intended. Our only small note? Cutlery would’ve been a welcome addition for some of the desserts.
What we liked: Every dessert tasted as though it had just come out of a mother’s kitchen — in the best possible way. The lemon blueberry cookie tart quickly became one of our favorites. Built on a buttery cookie base, layered with silky lemon curd and topped with tangy blueberry confit, it struck a beautiful balance between sweet and citrusy. The cinnamon roll delivered: soft, warm, and packed with cinnamon. While the glaze could have been a little better, it wasn’t a dealbreaker. Chocolate lovers should also make a beeline for the bite-sized brownie cup — rich, fudgy, and decadent, the brownies were of very high quality. The classic Nutella-filled cookie was another standout, boasting a crisp exterior and molten center. Pro tip: give it 20 seconds in the microwave before digging in.
The real stars of the order, however, were the double cheese rolls. Somewhere between a fluffy bread roll and a savory pastry, they arrived piping hot with a gooey cheese filling, peppers, and a generous drizzle of cheese sauce. They’re worth ordering if you’re not in the mood for dessert.
The verdict: Monmon Goodies feels refreshingly personal in a world of cookie-cutter dessert brands. The quality of the ingredients, generous portions, homemade flavors, and surprisingly affordable prices make it one of those rare places you’ll immediately want to recommend to friends.
