The a16z show offers a smorgasbord of business and tech knowledge

With a rotating roster of hosts from within Andreessen Horowitz, each episode invites guest experts to discuss different facets pertaining to tech and AI

🎧 Craving your daily dose of tech and culture news? The a16z show has got you covered. All about the headlines, movements, and people making waves in the tech sphere, now and in the future, the podcast — brought to life by Silicon Valley-based VC firm Andreessen Horowitz — leaves no relevant tech stone unturned.

What to expect: With a rotating roster of hosts featuring a slew of experts, analysts, and leaders from within Andreessen Horowitz, each episode invites guest experts to discuss different facets pertaining to tech and AI — with an emphasis on the latter. Topics include the future of tech security, the new geopolitics of emerging tech, and navigating crises in the workplace.

In one episode that caught our attention, co-hosts Sophia Dew and Binji Pande talk to Russian-Canadian programmer Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum Blockchain, on what it means to have human agency in the age of AI — and whether that’s still possible at all. The episode discusses the evolving relationship between man and machine, and why now, more than ever, critical thinking and creativity are non-negotiable skills to hone.

What we liked: The co-hosts’ passion and energy are palpable — particularly Dew’s, whose energy kept us focused and engaged throughout the 25-minute episode. We also particularly enjoyed the hosts’ eschewing of the traditional interview format, instead tackling the discussion in a more fluid manner, with all three speakers volleying off each other. Buterin also discusses the path toward starting his company as a teenager — a segment we found insightful.

What we didn’t: If we were to get nit-picky, we’d say our only gripe with the episode was the subpar voice quality on Vitalik’s end, especially compared to the crisp audio on the hosts’ end.

The verdict: The a16z show is a podcast that tackles business- and tech-heavy topics, yes, but it presents them smoothly and accessibly — much thanks to its hosts’ experience. The short runtimes, typically 20-50 minutes, make for a speedy listen — even more so if you’re a 1.5x listener like us. With over 1k episodes in its backlog, there’s plenty to keep you busy, educated, and entertained.
