Klay Deli has your morning, afternoon, and evening fix covered

🥪 Sandwiches aren’t hard to find, and good sandwiches aren’t particularly difficult to source either; but exceptional ones are few and far between — you’ll find them at Klay Deli. Based in New Cairo but delivering all over C-town, this “fast casual dining” spot has mastered the art of on-the-go coffee and bites.

What to expect: A New York-style deli with a whole lot of Italian flavors, Klay has everything from soft focaccia bread sandwiches and warm bowls to lasagnas — but these aren’t your average sammies and bowls. Think smoked beef focaccias with sweet fig spreads, pistachio-infused roast beef, and healthy homemade beetroot chips. The beverage menu features all the classic brews, with a few creative concoctions here and there if you’re feeling adventurous.

What we ordered (and loved): For our brew, we opted for a flat white — it certainly didn’t disappoint. The coffee was strong, not too bitter, and the ratio was just right. For the main event, we ordered the fig smoked beef sandwich and the pistachio roast beef — both passed our tests with flying colors.

The focaccia was incredibly soft and fresh, and both the fig and pistachio spreads added a much-welcome flavor that quelled any doubts we might have initially had. The stuffing itself was generous, and despite the sandwiches being average in size, they filled us up. Klay Deli was fast to deliver and was on our doorstep within 15 minutes, despite ordering from Heliopolis. Packaging in particular stood out, with the sandwiches cut in half and packed neatly in bowls.

Our verdict: Klay Deli is a spot we’re grateful to have discovered, but disappointed it took us this long to do so. Our experience was a great all-around, and we’re already looking forward to our second serving — we’ve got our eyes on the warm bowls. If you’re looking for a light yet hearty treat tonight and find yourself tired of the usual go-tos, we’d argue Klay is exactly what you need.
