🍜 Over the past few weeks, one Asian fast-food destination in New Cairo has been making the rounds on social media — hailed by some as the best noodles spot. Having opened its doors last November, Jinju — formerly Marassi’s Ugly Fest — is a Pan-Asian fusion restaurant serving food that bites back.
Despite having a one-page menu, Jinju offers plenty of choices. You’ll find signature spicy noodles with either beef or chicken, non-spicy Shanghai noodles (also available with shrimp), a selection of Korean-style fried chicken sandwiches, wontons, spring rolls, chicken tenders in a variety of sauces, and other starters. For our first visit, we opted for the non-spicy Shanghai chicken noodles, a fried chicken sandwich called “KFC” that piqued our curiosity, and the vegetable spring rolls.
Spoiler alert: Jinju lives up to the hype. The spring rolls offer the perfect mix of crisp and tender, with a crunchy exterior and expertly seasoned, melt-in-your-mouth vegetable fillings. The homemade sweet chili dip was the cherry on top, proving itself the perfect condiment. Then came the KFC sandwich. It’s hard to tell which aspect of the actual KFC the sandwich sought to emulate, but we can confidently say it one-upped its muse, offering a fried chicken sandwich in smooth, buttery brioche oozing with flavor. The sauce itself appears to be a combination of mayo and teriyaki, and the filling — generous with the spring onions and pickles — made for a hearty treat.
The star of the show: The restaurant’s recent virality can be largely attributed to its noodles. Perfectly cooked, rich in umami, and generous in portion, the dish stands among the best we’ve had in months. The stir-fried chicken was perfectly tender, and the vegetables strewn throughout complemented it without overpowering.
We’ll likely visit again to sample their Bang Bang shrimp and Korean tenders. If you’re looking to treat yourself to a different kind of meal tonight — especially with Ramadan around the corner and no shortage of home-cooked Egyptian food on the horizon — we’d say give Jinju a shot.
