⚽ The penultimate round of the Champions League stage starts today. The teams standings are riding on their match results tonight and next week, as they scramble to garner points to qualify for the advanced stages of the tournament.
All eyes are on Anfield stadium Liverpool’s match against Lille at 10pm. The team leaders are up against this season’s underdogs, aptly nicknamed The Mastiffs, who shocked everyone by landing eighth on the leaderboard — with 13 points from four victories and one draw — and qualifying for the round of 16.
Estádio da Luz will be receiving Barcelona on its pitch tonight at 10pm. The Blaugrana — second on the scoreboard with 15 points — are set to play against Portuguese hosts Benfica, hoping for a victory to offset several disappointing outcomes in the Copa de España. The Águias are hoping to improve on their 15th place standing and avoid the playoffs to qualify for the round of 16.
The match between Atlético Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen also kicks off at 10pm — the two teams are separated by only one point, but stand seven places apart on the scoreboard. Atlético currently stand in 11th place with 12 points, while Leverkusen’s 13 points places them in fourth place behind Liverpool, Barcelona and Arsenal.
