? A series that gets off on the wrong arm. Bad Monkey is a series adapted from Carl Hiaasen's novel set in the sunny Florida Keys. Creator Bill Lawrence’s talent for writing memorable characters and witty conversations shines in this quirky adaptation.

It starts with a strange incident that kicks off an odd chain of events: The story begins when a honeymooner fishing off the Florida Keys hooks a severed arm instead of a marlin. Enter Andrew Yancy (Vince Vaughn), a suspended police detective who’s trying to enjoy his time away from the force. Yancy is tasked with transporting the mysterious arm to Miami, where he crosses paths with medical examiner Rosa Campesino (Natalie Martinez). Sparks immediately fly — but not romantically.

As Yancy digs deeper into the arm’s origins, he quickly gets mixed up in a mess of personal and professional problems, including a missing persons case, an unhappy affair, and a series of shady deals. As he searches for answers, Yancy uncovers more secrets and ends up clashing with almost everyone around him.

There’s a lot to take in: Among the characters are Neville Stafford (Ronald Peet), a Bahamian fisherman trying to protect his land from a resort developer, and Bonnie Witt (Michelle Monaghan), the married woman Yancy is seeing who may or may not have ulterior motives. The show mixes dark humor and mystery well, with Captain Fitzgerald’s (Tom Nowicki) narration keeping the plot on track. While constant narration can be annoying, here it helps connect the different storylines without being too much.

Despite the slow pace the series is a fun ride full of quirky characters, strange plots, and dark comedy. The twists keep things unpredictable, but with Lawrence in charge, it stays funny and focused.
