The Tourism Ministry will begin implementing a new system to determine hotel star ratings based on feedback from hotel guests, as well as assessments from ministry employees and a Spanish hotel rating company, Chamber of Tourism Establishments board member Tamer Nabil said, according to Al Shorouk. The new approach will also see the ministry distinguish between criteria used to assess hotels resort towns and those applied to hotels in major cities. We noted last year that a hotel’s government-assigned star rating will be a factor in determining how much this property will be paying in real estate taxes under a new tax calculation agreement reached between the finance and tourism ministries.
