ACWA Power Egypt is a top contender for the contract to develop a 200 MW solar power plant in Kom Ombo in Upper Egypt, having presented the lowest feed-in tariff rate of EGP 2.73 per kWh, Regional Director Hassan Amin tells Amwal Al Ghad. Amin did not disclose the expected investment value or timeline for the development of the plant. Competitors for the tender include a consortium made up of Elsewedy, EDF Energy, and Marubeni; another made up of Orascom Construction and Engie; a third with Enerpal Group and Actis; and a fourth made up of Scatec Solar and Fotowatio Renewable Ventures. The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) began receiving offers for the 200 MW solar power plant in March. The bidding window was pushed several times to allow the ministry time to settle on a base feed-in tariff for the project.
