Qatar smackdown anniversary is the only Egypt non-football related coverage: Beyond coverage of Egypt’s World Cup preparation, the only Egypt-related story gaining traction in the foreign press is its part in the year-long boycott of Qatar. There’s nothing particularly noteworthy in the coverage aside from Saudi Arabia’s threat this week to launch a military attack on Qatar if it installed anti-aircraft defenses. Saudi Arabia's King Salman has threatened to take military action if Qatar installs a Russian air defence system in a letter to French President Emmanuel Macron, according to a piece by Le Monde newspaper picked up in Haaretz. The AP has a refresher on the war of words, while theUAE’s National is running a piece from the editorial board on how the GCC countries and Egypt are resolute in their demands.
