Egypt’s economic development plan requires a reshuffle of the government’s priorities to speed things along, Sameh El Alaily writes in a column penned for Al Shorouk. El Alaily says tackling unemployment should be the country’s top priority, noting that a large portion of the population is unqualified to meet the job market’s needs. The state must also buckle down and resolve the increasingly problematic phenomenon of urban overcrowding, which he notes has also given rise to other problems such as traffic. El Alaily’s train of thought comes full circle as he calls for increased employment opportunities outside the country’s central cities to lure the population out of these overcrowded areas.
