Morocco adds MAD 275 mn Fez zone to its logistics network

Morocco is adding another inland node to its logistics network, beginning construction on an MAD 275 mn logistics zone in Moulay Yacoub province, near Fez, Morocco World News reports. The project is being developed by the Moroccan Agency for Logistics Development and the Fez-Meknes Regional Council, with works expected to run for 18 months and serviced plots becoming available to operators from 2027.

The details: The first phase will cover 32 hectares within a wider 100-hectare land reserve — which will include modern warehouses, cold-storage facilities, transport and logistics services, and nearly 400k sqm of serviced land eventually set aside for private projects.

Why it matters: The new facility is set to reduce unnecessary handling and empty-truck journeys, ease congestion around urban areas, and strengthen regional distribution networks. The government also expects the zone to lower logistics costs for businesses and improve access to domestic and international markets.

IN CONTEXT- Morocco is building the inland layer alongside a much larger maritime expansion. The country is planning to invest around USD 8 bn in ports through 2030, targeting a 15% increase in port capacity to 450 mn tons. Tanger Med handled 11.1 mn TEUs in 2025, while Nador West Med is slated to enter service in 2H 2026 and Dakhla’s new Atlantic gateway in 2028.
