TOURISM-

We’re closer to GEM’s grand opening than ever, with the long-anticipated opening event festivities for the world’s largest archaeological museum kicking off tomorrow. To ensure smooth operations, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly announced the day — Saturday, 1 November — a paid day off for public sector workers.

PRIVATIZATION WATCH-

The government is doubling down on its privatization drive — with a wider scope andnew approach, as the Madbouly government plans to expand its privatization program to include 50 state-owned companies spanning 14 economic sectors, up from 35 currently in focus, two government sources told EnterpriseAM. The new methodology aims to broaden private-sector capital participation, rather than rely solely on strategic asset sales.

ENERGY-

Energean inked a 15-year transmission agreement for Israel’s Nitzana pipeline to Egypt, the LSE-listed oil and gas company said in a statement. Under the agreement with the state-owned Israel Natural Gas Lines, the company will supply 1 bcm a year and cover USD 100 mn — or 16.4% — of construction costs.

TAX-

#1- Tax hike on alcoholic beverages coming soon: The Finance Ministry is preparing to taxalcoholic beverages based on their alcohol by volume percentage (ABV) in accordance with the amended VAT law starting 1 January 2026. The tax rate is set to rise by 15% annually for the next three years — after which the annual increase will be reduced to 12% starting 2029, according to a document seen by EnterpriseAM.

#2- The Finance Ministry has stepped in to resolve a major transitional headache for the construction sector following new VAT rules, approving a new accounting mechanism to effectively apply the new 14% VAT law to contracts inked before the new VAT rules while technically maintaining the original 5% rate, according to an official decision seen by EnterpriseAM.

M&A WATCH-

Edge Holding for Investments signed an agreement to acquire a 30% stake in Basata Microfinance, a subsidiary of Basata Financial Holding (BFH), through a capital increase, according to a joint statement (pdf). Edge will take on management duties to support Basata’s nationwide expansion. There’s no publicly available information about the size of the transaction and the number of new shares that will be issued.

DEBT WATCH-

#1- The country’s first retail bond issuance should go live in Q1 2026 or even before the end of 2025, a senior government official told EnterpriseAM. The issuance will be accompanied by a promotional campaign to attract tempted investors, the source added.

#2- The Madbouly government postponed its first-ever local sukuk issuance to next Monday, with settlement scheduled for the following day, after originally being pencilled in for last week, a senior government official told EnterpriseAM. The move marks the third time the shariah-compliant issuance has been postponed.

MANUFACTURING-

Chinese smartphone maker Oppo officially kicked off production at its Tenth of Ramadan factory as part of a USD 50 mn investment plan that will create 2k jobs, according to a company statement (pdf). The facility produces 400k units per month with plans to expand to 500k units in early 2026. Oppo also plans to raise the local component ratio in its Egypt-assembled phones, up from a current 42%.

INVESTMENT WATCH-

An Egyptian-Chinese consortium will invest over USD 75 mn across three new textile projects in Qantara West Industrial Zone, according to a statement. The projects, spanning 225k sqm, are expected to generate over USD 100 mn in annual exports and create around 3.6k jobs.

LOGISTICS-

Emirati port operator DP World inaugurated its USD 85 mn Sokhna Logistic Park in the Sokhna Industrial Zone, marking a strategic step in Egypt’s efforts to position itself as a regional hub for logistics services and global trade, according to a cabinet statement. The first phase of the project has begun operations, while the second will go online in 3Q 2026, once both are operational the zone will create 300 jobs.

THE ENTERPRISE GUIDE

Using 4Q for personal growth: Part two

🏃 While most people wind down and wait for January to make changes, savvy business-minded people know that 4Q is a chance to finish strong and create momentum that carries into the new year. Instead of just surviving through the holidays, you have the option to thrive through the intentional transformation of your personal life.

WHY THE FINAL QUARTER WORKS

Why not wait until January? There’s something powerful about aligning our goals with nature’s rhythms. Just as trees prepare for winter by sending energy to their roots, 4Q is perfect for deepening our foundation and preparing for growth. Research shows that 90 days is the optimal timeframe for creating lasting change. It’s long enough to build real habits, but short enough to maintain focus and motivation. Unlike annual resolutions that feel overwhelming and distant, quarterly planning feels achievable and immediate. And as of today, 3 October, you have almost exactly that amount of time left.

We’ve designed this guide to be your companion for the next 90 days. Each month has a specific theme and focus, and each week a new phase.

Your success during this time will depend on three key principles: Consistency over perfection — small daily actions that compound into major transformations; flexibility within structure — adapting the plan to your life while maintaining the core framework; and progress over perfection — celebrating small victories and learning from setbacks.

PART TWO: EXECUTION (DAYS 31-60)

THEME: MOMENTUM

November is your momentum month, with the added challenge of increasing holiday obligations. This is when your October foundation meets real-world pressure testing. The goal is maintaining focus and accelerating progress while the world gets busier around you.

#1- WEEK 5: SKILL DEVELOPMENT SPEEDRUN

With 60 days remaining, select one skill that will create maximum impact across your three major goals. Consider communication and influence skills that improve both relationships and career prospects, stress management and productivity skills that help you navigate busy season while maintaining progress, health and energy optimization skills that provide the stamina for your final sprint, or financial planning skills that set you up for a strong end to the year and strong new year positioning.

THE GAMEPLAN: With limited time, your skill development needs to be highly focused and immediately applicable.

THE FIRST WEEK involves rapid foundation building through focused study of core principles and immediate practice opportunities.

THE SECOND WEEK emphasizes real-world application in low-stakes situations while building confidence and competence.

THE THIRD WEEK requires challenging application in situations that matter to your goals and daily life.

THE FOURTH WEEK focuses on refinement and integration, making the skill automatic enough to maintain during a busy December.

THE SYSTEM: Daily practice should involve 15-20 minutes of focused skill development during your peak energy time, specific daily applications that reinforce learning through real-world use, and progress tracking that shows immediate improvement and maintains motivation. Weekly integration includes longer practice sessions when time allows, deliberate application to your three major goals, and strategic review of what’s working and what needs adjustment for maximum learning efficiency.

#2- WEEK 6: RELATIONSHIP INVESTMENT BEFORE THE HOLIDAY SEASON

November is your last chance to strengthen your relationships before the holiday chaos begins. Focus on quality over quantity with your limited time and energy. Key relationships require intentional investment now. Reach out to family members you want to connect with before the holiday stress increases, schedule meaningful time with friends who matter most to you, and strengthen professional relationships that could benefit your career goals.

Setting expectations becomes crucial as social obligations increase. Practice saying no to commitments that don’t align with or may derail your 90-day goals. Communicate your priorities clearly so that others understand your focus, and prepare responses for holiday invitations and requests that may hinder your progress.

Network building with purpose: With 60 days remaining, networking needs to be highly strategic and immediately beneficial. Professional network expansion should focus on connections that directly support your career goals and can provide opportunities or insights before year-end. Industry events, online communities, and strategic outreach should all serve your 31 December vision. Personal networking strengthening involves deepening existing relationships rather than trying to build many new ones in limited time. Focus on relationships that provide mutual support and understanding of your goals.

#3- WEEK 7: PRE-HOLIDAY OPTIMIZATION

Health and energy management becomes critical as schedules intensify and daylight decreases. Optimize your exercise routine for consistency during busy periods rather than complexity. Focus on nutrition that sustains energy throughout demanding days. Prioritize sleep as the foundation for everything else, especially during stressful periods.

Career positioning for year-end involves completing high-visibility projects before holiday slowdowns, preparing for year-end reviews with documented achievements, positioning yourself for new opportunities that arise during January planning cycles, and building relationships that could benefit your next career moves.

Your financial year-end strategy should include completing any strategic financial moves, planning budgets that don’t derail your financial goals, and positioning your finances for a strong start to the new year.

#4- WEEK 8: MOMENTUM MAINTENANCE

Holiday week strategy: Christmas and your little ones’ winter breaks will test your ability to maintain progress during disrupted routines and increased social or personal obligations, especially as everyone else winds down for the year. Maintain your core habits through simplified versions that work with travel and family time. Use holiday gatherings to practice your relationship skills and goal management techniques. Strategic rest and reflection can happen during slower holiday periods — use your travel time or quiet moments to review and plan your progress.

Now you have the blueprint to build momentum, though it comes with the added complexity of growing holiday commitments. Your aim is to stay focused and pick up speed even as activity and distractions intensify around you.

December marks your closing push — the peak of your 90-day journey. This is where your October and November progress unite to deliver significant breakthroughs before the year ends. The key challenge lies in sustaining sharp focus amid increasing responsibilities and the demands of year-end closure.

PART THREE: FINISH STRONG publishes the last weekend of November. Catch up on sleep and recovery to prepare for December’s final push.

Missed PART ONE: FOUNDATION? You can find it here.

At the Movies

Al Sada Al Afadel is a ludicrous comedy worth your time

đŸŽ„ Deranged, distinguished gentlemen: In Al Sada Al Afadel, filmmakers Mostafa Sakr, Mohamed Ezz El Din, and Abdelrahman Gawish join forces to pen one of the year’s most ridiculously absurd — yet masterfully produced — stories.

Directed by Karim El Shennawi, the film’s events unfold over two days during Eid El Fitr in a rural Egyptian village. Galal Aboulfadl (Bayoumi Fouad) is the Aboulfadl family patriarch. After passing away, he leaves behind quite a large family: his wife Samira (Entissar), his elder son Tarek (Mohamed Mamdouh), his other son Hegazy (Mohamed Shahin), his daughter Nahed (Donia Maher), their two paternal uncles, Kheiry (Ashraf Abdelbaky) and Mamdouh (Ismail Farghaly), and Noura (Nahed El Sebai), Mamdouh’s fiancĂ©e and cousin. The household is turned upside down following Galal’s death when Samir Italia — a con artist to whom Galal owed money — shows up and threatens the family.

And while that’s happening, we meet comedic trio Gohary (Taha Desouky), Farouk (Ali Sobhy), and Mahmoud (Michel Milad) — brought together by an unbreakable bond of tomfoolery and drug use. Their latest adventure? A heist on the post office right next to the Aboulfadl house while the funeral’s underway and people are distracted. Sounds simple, right? Well, let’s just say it doesn’t go as planned.

Al Sada Al Afadel was a recipe for success from the get-go. Since debuting, the film has achieved sweeping success, and how could it not? The film caters to mass audiences in every shape and form — a ludicrous premise, an airtight plot, and solid comedy (regardless of a few bad puns here and there). We found ourselves literally laughing out loud at least three times. Casting was on point, and every actor — from main to guest — delivered a stellar performance. The icing on the cake? The film’s soundtrack, which adeptly captured the story’s absurdity and gave us an earworm that slithered its way to our brains.

This is a film so positively ridiculous we couldn’t help but feel impressed. From the illogical dramatics and their ensuing butterfly effect, to the satirical dialogue, and dark comedy that permeates every scene, Al Sada Al Afadel secured the only victory that matters: the audience.

Another hit for up-and-coming director Karim El Shennawi. Al Sada Al Afadel is a brilliant new addition to the young director’s oeuvre, proving that respecting the viewer’s time by delivering something worthy of it is a course of action that indeed pays off. El Shennawi has great potential, and every genre he tackles proves fertile ground for his talents. From powerful television dramas such as Qabeel and Lam Shamseya to big screen hits such as Daye, El Shennawi has proven himself a rising star to be reckoned with.

WHERE TO WATCH- Al Sada Al Afadel is screening at Vox Cinemas in City Center Almaza, Mall of Egypt, and Mall of Alexandria. You can also catch the film at City Stars Cinema, CFCM and District 5’s Scene Cinema, Cima Arkan, Zawya, and P90 Cinemas. Watch the trailer on YouTube (runtime: 1:51).

Happy Halloween to you and your pets — dead or alive

📚 A purr-fect horror: Published in 1983, Pet Sematary is one of veteran writer Stephen King’s most celebrated works of horror. Having earned him the World Fantasy Award for Best Novel in 1984, the novel has since been adapted for the big screen in 1989 and 30 years later in 2019. So frightening is the tale that King refused to continue working on it for a time, choosing to shelve it until contractual obligations required him to submit it to his publisher.

All roads lead to Maine. As is the case with most of King’s works, the story takes place in his home state of Maine. The novel follows the Creed family — comprising Louis, a doctor, Rachel, and their two kids, Ellie and Gage, and Ellie’s cat — as they make their way from Chicago to Maine after Louis is appointed as director of the University of Maine’s campus infirmary. The family moves into a house next to the highway, and all four are met with their friendly, elderly neighbor Jud, who warns them not to get too close to the road as the trucks tend to speed by.

A not-so child friendly tour. Jud takes the family on a tour of the estate and surrounding lands, reaching a centuries-old pet cemetery where past inhabitants have buried their beloved furry friends. This trip triggers a series of uncomfortable conversations surrounding death between Louis and his daughter, Ellie, leaving her in tears as she comes to the realization that death will eventually come for her family
 and her cat.

Louis’ first day on the job doesn’t go all too well. A young man called Victor is run over by a car while jogging, and is quickly brought to the infirmary. His injuries are severe, with his brain all but pulp. It’s a gruesome encounter, and one that leaves the doctor in shock when Victor’s last words are seemingly a warning of the pet cemetery. He begins dreaming of Victor, who leads him to the cemetery, warning that it would see his family’s demise.

Winston Churchill strikes again — no, not that one. On Thanksgiving, Ellie’s cat, Church (short for Winston Churchill), is run over by a truck and later found by Jud. Louis decides to bury him in the pet cemetery without letting anyone know, planning to tell Ellie that the cat simply wandered off. As Louis buries the cat, he cannot help but feel a looming danger. A day later, the cat returns alive and well — but Church is not the same.

There is no escaping death. The cat’s revival is the first of many dangerous omens awaiting the Creed family. Over the course of the novel, readers are let in on the magical secrets behind the cemetery, and its centuries-old dangers. Pet Sematary does not offer the sort of horror that relies on gore and plot twists, but rather a horror that is slowly realized, manifested in full form only when it’s too late. It is exactly this that earns the novel its status as a classic horror.

Turn the lights on, hold on to a pillow, and embrace the goosebumps. Pet Sematary is equal parts horrifying and heartbreaking. It’s a story on death, what it means to grapple with grief, and what becomes of you when you’re lost to it. It’s a slow-paced novel, but one that meets you with an uppercut when you reach its zenith. If you’re not busy heading to a Halloween party tonight, we’d recommend picking it up (and hugging your loved ones, fluffy or otherwise, after).

WHERE TO GET IT- You can find the paperback version at Diwan. You can also get the ebook off Amazon, and listen to the audiobook on Storytel.

PASS THE CONTROLLER

A love letter to retro gaming rage

🎼 The Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN) has been a fixture of internet gaming culture, with the foul-mouthed James Rolfe’s foul-mouthed raging against the design choices and technical limitations of classic NES titles since 2006. Now, with Angry Video Game Nerd 8-Bit, developer Retroware has created something unique: a game that deliberately recreates those same frustrations as a form of homage. It’s a risky creative choice that divides players, but for fans who understand the joke, it works more often than it doesn’t.

The premise is pure AVGN: Super Mecha Death Christ returns to corrupt the Nerd’s beloved NES console, forcing him to dive into the system itself to defeat six cursed game cartridges. Full-motion video segments bookend the experience, with Rolfe delivering his signature profanity-laced commentary. These FMV sequences effectively turn the game into an interactive AVGN episode, though you can disable them (if you’re a party-pooper
or on your second or third playthrough).

Mega Man meets masochism: At its core, this is an unabashed Mega Man clone. You select from six stages in any order, each spoofing games the Nerd has covered: Ghosts ‘n Goblins, Top Gun, Fester’s Quest, ET, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and Terminator. Controls feel responsive and precise, with the Nerd jumping, sliding, and firing his NES Zapper at enemies. The similarity to the Capcom classic is intentional and thorough, down to the grid-based password systems in the actual NES version.

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature. What sets this apart from standard Mega Man fare is how it deliberately incorporates the cheap design choices that made old NES games so rage-inducing. Enemies spawn at awkward moments, jumps require leaps of faith, and pattern recognition isn’t always intuitive. It’s frustrating by design — a gameplay embodiment of everything the Nerd complains about in his videos.

What’s the catch? Even on the easier setting, the experience is notably safer than authentic NES titles — touching spikes or falling into pits deals damage rather than instant death. Lives are generous — you have a maximum of nine — and checkpoints are frequent enough that you rarely lose significant progress. The game’s length is another sticking point. Most players will complete all six stages and reach the final boss in under four hours. For a game that positions itself as a tribute to notoriously difficult NES titles, it lacks the brutal endurance test many expect.

If you’re not familiar with the source material, this just feels like a poorly designed platformer, but for longtime AVGN fans, there’s genuine humor in the experience. When you get hit by an enemy spawning directly on top of you, or when a boss suddenly reveals a second form after you think you’ve won
It’s simultaneously infuriating and funny, because you recognize these exact rants from the show. Our opinion? For a character built on over-the-top frustration, AVGN 8-Bit needed to push harder — as it stands, it’s a decent afternoon diversion rather than the finger-cramping endurance test the AVGN brand demands.
