President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s choice of head for the Council of State is likely rooted in political considerations, Mohamed Amin writes for Al Masry Al Youm. Judge Yehia Dakroury, the council’s sole nominee for the position due to seniority, is likely paying the price for being the judge to annul the Tiran and Sanafir handover agreement, Amin says. El Sisi also likely rejected him because the Council refused to play by the rules and adhere to the contentious Judicial Authorities Act. The columnist gently hints that El Sisi was sending a message by appointing the fourth most senior judge to head the council, thereby skipping the top three judges whom the council would have likely nominated if it had played ball with the Act.
