Mubarak acquiesced to US demands to resettle Palestinians in Egypt back in the ‘80s? The BBC claimed on Wednesday to have obtained confidential documents allegedly proving that ex-president Hosni Mubarak had agreed to a US demand asking that he resettle Lebanon’s Palestinian diaspora in Egypt on the condition that the move come as part of a “comprehensive framework for a solution” to the Arab-Israeli conflict. Mubarak’s statements were reportedly made during a visit to London in the early 1980s, where he had met with then-British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and late US president Ronald Reagan. This came days after Israeli Social Equality Minister Gila Gamliel suggested that Egypt create a settlement for Palestinians in the Sinai, ruffling some feathers in Egypt’s government and parliament.
