Ground control to Major Abbass: Egyptian art collective El Side Effect have struck gold with their Kawkab Tani (another planet) project, which meshes the down-to-earth Egyptian with the out-of-this-world space odyssey. Taking inspiration from the 1988 Medhat Salah song of the same name, the group has managed to tap into the esoteric in the typically mundane facets of daily Egyptian life. You’ll find microbuses with supernovas in them, or donkey carts whizzing past a nebula as comfortably as the starship USS Enterprise. Quartz has run a fascinating piece on the project, which you can check out here.
