? UNDER THE LAMPLIGHT-

Just when we thought we’d had enough of thrillers, we stumbled upon Clémence Michallon’s The Quiet Tenant . A seemingly ordinary father and husband, Aidan Thomas also happens to be a serial killer with eight murders under his belt and a desire for more. But no one in his upstate New York community suspects his dark secret — nor the fact that he has kidnapped another woman, Rachel, whom he has kept locked in his shed for years. Things get more complicated when Aidan’s wife dies and Aidan has no choice but to move with his teenage daughter, Cecilia. The new widower decides to take a risk: Introduce Cecilia to his victim in the hopes that the latter’s trauma from being held captive for so long will bend her into submission to make her play along with his narrative. Rachel, Aidan tells Cecilia, is just a friend they are helping out for a while. But Rachel has other plans in mind when she comes into contact with the young girl. This page-turner is all at once exciting, disturbing, and written with just the right amount of tension and suspense to leave us stirring and out of breath.
