The Hunt for Veerappan is a true crime Netflix docu-series chronicling the life and crimes of Indian bandit and poacher Veerappan, including the years-long manhunt that eventually ended his string of kidnappings, murders, and smugglings. The four-part documentary follows the life of the controversial criminal known for sporting a big mustache and a bigger gun, and how he went from being an elephant poacher in the forests of southern India to becoming a domestic terrorist. He was charged for kidnapping high-profile politicians and holding them for ransom, killing a large number of forest officials, police officers, and over 2k elephants, as well as stealing ivory and sandalwood worth USD mns. It wasn’t until he was an active criminal for 34 years — during which time he also built a family — that the Special Task Force of Tamil Nadu Police caught and killed Veerappan in 2004. The documentary includes interviews with some of Veerappan’s gang members, his widow Muthulakshmi, members of the Special Task Force, investigative journalists, and the Tamil Nadu Liberation Army.
