Egyptian director Mohamed Diab’s Amira made headlines over the weekend after the Jordnanian Royal Film Commission pulled the film as its Oscar submission after being met with “great controversy.” The film aims to highlight the struggles of the Palestinian people but instead tells the story of children conceived by smuggling sperm from Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
