THE BIG STORY ABROAD-
🌐 Russia unleashed a sweeping overnight assault on Kyiv and other cities earlier this morning — one of its largest aerial attacks on Ukraine in recent months — leaving at least 18 people dead and more than 100 wounded. According to Ukraine’s military, the attack involved over 600 drones and dozens of missiles, including advanced hypersonic weapons.
The strikes took a heavy toll on civilian infrastructure, with the Health Ministry reporting that five medical facilities were damaged or destroyed, while in the capital, the barrage ripped through residential and commercial districts, damaging multiple buildings, setting off fires, and leaving burned-out vehicles in its wake.

CLOSER TO HOME- Israeli drone strikes killed eight people in southern Lebanon just a day after US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to ease hostilities, underscoring the fragility of the latest de-escalation efforts.
Tensions already surged yesterday after Israel threatened strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, triggering panic across the Lebanese capital, while Hezbollah responded with rocket fire into northern Israel. Later that day, Trump said that, following a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and indirect communication with Hezbollah through mediators, assurances had been given that “there will be no troops going to Beirut.”

IN TECH NEWS- AI startup Anthropic is preparing to make its Wall Street debut, revealing plans to pursue an IPO. The company behind the Claude chatbot said yesterday it has filed the necessary paperwork with US regulators, setting the stage for a stock market listing later this year. While the move marks a major milestone in the AIrace, Anthropic noted that key details of the offering — including the share price and the number of shares to be sold — are still being finalized.

- Talaat Moustafa Group’s Iraqi subsidiary secured land and a license for a USD 10 bn megaproject in Baghdad. Located within Baghdad Financial and Economic City, the 12.8 mn sqm project will house 250k residents across 43k units, launching with a 16-year construction timeline and a 12-year sales window;
- Natural gas is losing its VAT exemption for the first time, slapping a flat EGP 20/mcf table tax on the fuel to ease the state’s budget burden. The amendments also extend a VAT suspension on production machinery and medical equipment to four years to stimulate local manufacturing and keep capital from getting locked up in red tape;
