🍴 There are many pleasures to be experienced in life. Seaside dining is one, and – if you’re lucky enough to be born in Om El Donia — Egyptian grills are another. El Mohamady, the Mansoura-born oriental grill heavyweight that has earned the love and patronage of West Cairenes and East Cairenes alike, offers a brand new experience that doubles down on its signature hospitality.
Situated smack on the Nile corniche, El Mohamady’s Maadi branch comes with a stunning view of the water. You can choose outdoor dining by the corniche, or indoors — where you’ll still enjoy the view through the floor to ceiling windows. Clad in dark hues accented by dim lighting, Maadi’s El Mohamady may have disguised itself as a fine-dining destination, but it’s just the right place to roll up your sleeves, get comfortable, and dive into your dish.
El Mohamady’s menu still boasts its iconic signatures. Our afternoon at El Mohamady Maadi saw us ordering fattoush, molokhia, kobeba, mombar, stuffed vine leaves, and an assortment of cold dips — tommeya, baba ghanoug, and morta. For the main event, we went for a large grill mix and a Turkish grill mix, with a pair of mint lemonades on the side to ease us through the feast.
Here’s the thing about El Mohamady — and something we should have seen coming: It’s very easy to over-order. The Nile-side eatery’s portions are quite generous, and we found ourselves biting off more than we could chew (though in the moment, we couldn’t have been happier). The appetizers all hit the nail right on the head, with the kobeba and the fattoush in particular standing out. If we were to get critical, we’d say the stuffed vine leaves could be skipped, though they weren’t without their merits either.
Do in life what you will, just don’t miss out on El Mohamady’s Turkish grill mix. The regular grill mix was a hit, with the meat tender and the khalta rice flavorsome but light. But it was the Turkish grill mix that undoubtedly proved itself the main of the evening. With just the right amount of spice, the meats, alongside the mixed-nut rice, the fresh tomato sauce, and spiced vegetables, made for a deeply fulfilling meal — one we could not keep away from, despite having filled our stomachs to the brim.
PRO TIP: We’d recommend making a reservation by calling 19964, as it tends to get very crowded. The Maadi branch is also equipped with two private dining rooms perfect for large groups.
WHERE TO FIND IT- You’ll find El Mohammady’s newly-inaugurated branch on the NileCorniche in Maadi.
