🎾 TENNIS-

A renewed rivalry between Sinner and Alcaraz: The US Open men’s singles final will see Italy’s world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and Spanish runnerup Carlos Alcaraz tonight at 9pm at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Sinner made it to the final after beating out Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime yesterday, while Alcaraz clinched the position by defeating Djokovic in last Friday’s semifinal.

History on the court: This match marks the first time in Open history that the same players have met on the courts of three Grand Slam finals during a single season, with Sinner clinching Wimbledon and Carlitos claiming Roland Garros. Sinner also managed a historic feat by reaching all four Grand Slam finals in one season, joining the ranks of Rod Laver, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic.

In the women’s singles: Top-seeded Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka claimed the title yesterday in a match against the US’s ninth-ranked Amanda Anisimova in straight sets (6-3 | 7-6). Sabalenka’s victory marks her second US Open title and first Grand Slam this year after losing out on the Roland Garros and the Australian Open.
