? An accountant is dealt a balance sheet that could cost him his life. Al Sharnaqa centers around Hazem (Ahmed Dawood), an accountant who uncovers dirty business dealings at his company. What starts as an ordinary workday spirals into a dangerous game of cat and mouse, where every number hides a secret — and every secret is a threat.
The stakes are high. Hazem is not a hero — he’s a man who deals in numbers, is unhappy with his financial situation, and dreams of becoming rich. So when he finds illegal transactions linking his company to the arms and drug trades, he’s forced to choose between helping cover up the company’s transgressions — potentially to his own benefit — or doing the right thing and blowing the whistle.
The power players. Ahmed Dawood shines in his role as Hazem, which pushes him beyond his usual charm and proves that he can play more than just a charismatic lead. The series also has an impressive ensemble cast, including Sabry Fawwaz as Mohsen Morgan — Hazem’s boss — and Sara Abi Kanaan as a key player in unraveling the secrets. Supporting roles from Mariam El Khosht, Ali El Tayeb, and Salah Abdallah add to the intrigue and intensity of the show.
It’s a slow burn that pays off. The show’s first episodes lay the foundation of the story, which could be a bit tedious for some. But once the tension kicks in, the show is truly gripping — some might even say addictive. The cinematography also piles on the suspense, turning downtown Cairo into a co-main character in and of itself.
A must-watch or a pass? If you love thrillers that involve corporate crime and psychological drama, then yes. It’s rare to find a Ramadan series that doesn’t rely on melodrama but instead keeps you on the edge of your seat — making this series a truly unique watch.
