? This one’s dark… In Red Sparrow, Dominika Egorova (Jennifer Lawrence) is a former ballerina turned Russian spy. She experiences a career-ending injury and is forced to begin training at Sparrow School — a secret Russian intelligence program — in order to provide for her mother.

The plot: After being trained in the art of seduction, manipulation, and psychological warfare, Dominika is sent on an assignment to uncover a mole within the Russian Intelligence by seducing CIA agent Nate Nash (Joel Edgerton). The spy vs spy dynamic is interesting but is introduced at a slow pace that is heavy on the graphic violence rather than adding narrative depth. Dominika struggles to maintain control of her life as the lines between ally and enemy become blurred.

The performances are impressive. Jennifer Lawrence delivers an excellent performance as Dominika along with Charlotte Rampling, who played the head of Sparrow School.
