? A friendship that blossoms into romance is truly the magic of love in El Hawa Sultan. Director and writer Heba Yousry has captivated the audience with her latest film, a touching romantic drama that’s become a box office success and garnered praise from industry insiders in the less than two weeks since its opening. It takes us back to that warm, nostalgic ambiance familiar to fans of Yousry’s popular series Sabe’ Gar.

The story: Sara (Menna Shalaby) is a young woman with a simple job at a school, where she dreams of a peaceful life away from her past and her strained relationship with her father. Her best friend is Ali (Ahmed Dawood), also her childhood neighbor and confidant, who shares her easygoing nature, sense of humor, and love for Bahaa Sultan. Their friendship gradually transforms into a romance that they don't initially acknowledge — until circumstances in both of their lives push them to reconsider.

Realistic and relatable romantic films have a unique charm these days, especially as action-packed blockbusters dominate the big screen. This film’s heartfelt narrative and familiarity brings our quotidian emotional lives into focus: love, disappointment, and jealousy — feelings we’ve all experienced in one way or another.

The story’s pacing was just right, pairing well with elements of the film like its scenic shots of Heliopolis and the songs that are synced throughout the story. At over two hours long, the film’s length might be one downside, but we found it worthwhile from start to finish.

WHERE TO WATCH- You can watch the film at VOX Cinemas City Centre Almaza, Mall of Egypt, Alexandria, City Stars, Point 90, Zamalek, Cairo Festival City, Cima Arkan, and Zawya Cinemas. Or you can catch the trailer on YouTube (runtime: 1:47).
