McCartney: A Life in Lyrics brings listeners into the creative world of Paul McCartney from the Beatles, as he reflects on his iconic songs alongside Irish poet Paul Muldoon. This series is based on their earlier conversations for McCartney’s book, The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present, and while it recycles familiar material, hearing McCartney’s storytelling charm makes it all the better.

Each of the 12 episodes focuses on a different song, starting with the beloved Eleanor Rigby. Fans will recognize some anecdotes — like the song’s namesake being inspired by actress Eleanor Bron — but McCartney also shares surprising insights, such as the origin of the lyric “The face that she keeps in a jar by the door.”

No copyright infringements here. This podcast is able to include lengthy excerpts from the songs being discussed, a privilege afforded by McCartney’s ownership of the copyright. This makes the listening experience all the more immersive, allowing fans to hear the songs in context as McCartney recounts their stories.
