This one is for all the people who hoped to explore the galaxy far, far away. Star Wars Outlaws may not be the first — or the best — Star Wars game, but it is the only one that’s open world. Taking place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, you are Kay Vess, a rascal vaguely reminiscent of a certain beloved stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf-herder, who has to pull off a massive heist to pay off (or dodge) a crime syndicate. You travel all around the open world galaxy to assemble a team to help you pull this life-or-death plot off.
Okay. Open world… ish. Players have access to five different planets and their surrounding orbital regions. But could/would you ask for more? The different environments, from planet surfaces to different regions, are meticulously designed to reflect the expansive and rich worldbuilding of the Star Wars universe.
The plot is worth the price. While some have slammed it for the relatively short playtime compared to its price, the narrative-driven gameplay gives it the benefit of the doubt. It’s compelling and exciting, and gives you a fresh and immersive take on the world(s) of Star Wars.
It may be buggy now, but give it time. The game was only just released today, and we expect the visual bugs and sticky combat mechanics to be resolved in the early patches of the game.
