EARS TO THE GROUND-
The Dropout dives into the rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes and (what seemed to be) her breakthrough health technology company, Theranos. Host Rebecca Jarvis unpacks the drama surrounding Holmes and how she went from being the youngest self-made female billionaire to facing criminal charges.
Sticking to the facts: With an investigative approach, Jarvis and her team are careful to stay factual, accurate, and to not sensationalize the story. Each episode carefully examines her upbringing, how she was hailed as a visionary for a revolutionary blood-testing device, and how it all came crashing down when technology failed to deliver.
The episodes contain interviews with former employees, investors, and whistleblowers, each of which add context to the story. The podcast highlights the culture of Silicon Valley and the allure of entrepreneurship, showing how even seasoned investors were taken in by Holmes’ charm and ambition instead of cold hard numbers. A film adaptation of this case was made and titled The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley.
WHERE TO LISTEN- You can listen to the podcast on Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, and ABC Audio.
