Messi is heading to Inter Miami after PSG departure: Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi is planning to join Major League Soccer’s (MLS) Inter Miami, Messi told Mundo Deportivo yesterday. The footballer’s planned move comes after he turned down a EUR 400 mn per year offer from Saudi’s Al Hilal, and after negotiations over his return to FC Barcelona fell through over the club’s financial restrictions. Messi had left Barcelona in 2021 for Paris Saint-Germain, and played his last game for PSG last weekend.

What we know about the move so far: While the agreement has yet to be finalized, it reportedly includes an ownership stake at the club, which is co-owned by English football superstar David Beckham, Reuters reports, citing a source familiar with the matter. The contract would also include a cut of the revenue generated by Apple TV’s MLS Season Pass. The League earns a flat fee of around USD 250 mn annually from Apple, and it will begin to share subscription revenues after reaching a certain threshold. The transfer is expected to drive Apple TV’s viewership. Foxsports, The Guardian, Bloomberg, and ESPN also had the news.

WhatsApp is rolling out a new broadcast-based feature, WhatsApp Channels, to allow users to follow content based on their interests and follow organizations, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said today. The new feature — which is initially being introduced in Singapore and Colombia — will see channels bringing updates from local officials, sports teams, hobbies, among others. It will not share contact information, including photos and phone numbers. Meta plans to introduce WhatsApp Channels to more countries this year, Zuckerberg said, without specifying the exact timeline or which countries will be next in the rollout.
