Cherif Barakat tapped as Aton’s new Egypt country manager

Egypt-focused gold miner Aton Resources has appointed Cherif Barakat (LinkedIn) as its new Egypt country manager following Sherif Sousa’sresignation, the company said in a statement on Wednesday. Sousa, who had been in the position since March 2021, will step back from the company on 31 March “due to other commitments and personal reasons,” the company said. Interim company CEO Tonno Vahk (LinkedIn) will assume the position of general manager at the Egypt office.

Barakat has more than 20 years of experience at firms across the US, Europe, and Egypt. Prior to joining Aton, he founded Eastern Desert Gold in 2021 and before that held various positions at Exxon Mobil Corporation and Glover Park Group, as well as founding Acacia Consultants in 2011.
