Dramedy in a British hospital: This is Going to Hurt is a BBC series created by Adam Kay, based on his best-selling 2017 memoir. Set in 2006, the show stars Ben Whishaw (whom you may recognize as Q from the 007 films) as an overworked junior doctor struggling with immense fatigue as he works in the obstetrics and gynecology ward. The grueling job takes a toll on Kay’s relationships, as he struggles with his family and tries to maintain a social life. Characters routinely break the fourth wall in the series, directly addressing viewers with dialogue, and the plot is full of comedic and dramatic tones.
