A new UAE-based investment platform focusing on music and entertainment IP has been launched and is bringing in investors. IPNation launched its platform to tap into Arabic music’s cultural cachet, focusing on IP from the Arabic entertainment and music industry in the MENA region. It brought on New York-based Influence Media Partners as an investor and has a USD 100 mn target investment size.
The pitch: IPNation is investing in artist brands, music masters and publishing rights, IP, and name, image, and likeness (NIL). It’s also got an eye on acquisitions in multi-format entertainment ventures like live shows and AI-powered derivatives. IPNation sees Arabic music and entertainment as an under-monetized asset class compared to other regional music markets.
UAE names are behind the idea: IPNation was founded by Abu Dhabi-based music streaming platform Anghami’s co-founder Eddy Maroun (LinkedIn) and Multiply Group’s former chief investment officer José María Dot (LinkedIn).
There’s also a scarcity value angle at play: Authentic IP is becoming increasingly valuable in the age of AI and quick, cheap content, Maroun said in a LinkedIn post.
It seems IP investment is gaining traction in the UAE. CineNow picked the UAE as its HQ as it looks to tokenize IP from India’s cinema industry into a structured, investable asset class.
