Novo Nordisk names 30-year veteran Venkat Kalyan as general manager of its Gulf business

Global healthcare firm Novo Nordisk appointed Venkat Kalyan (LinkedIn) as general manager for Novo Nordisk Gulf, it said in a press release. Kalyan, who described the GCC markets as “exceptionally well positioned to lead the next phase of healthcare transformation,” will oversee the company’s business across the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Yemen.

BACKGROUND- Novo Nordisk recently chose the UAE as the first market outside the US to launch the pill version of Wegovy, and the drugmaker is also collaborating with the Emirates Drug Establishment on pharma manufacturing and supply chain resilience.

The new hire: Kalyan has been at Novo Nordisk for nearly 18 years, most recently serving as general manager of the Gulf emerging markets cluster. Previously, Kalyan worked at pharma multinational Abbott.
